How cheap can a Linux computerbe? If we are to believe the English Foundation Raspberry Pi may be just £15 or roughly $25. This includes a circuit with an ARM processor, 128 megabytes of memory, a USB port and an HDMI port for the display. There will also be support for SD memory.

The computer, which also is one of the world’s smallest, is still at the prototype stage, but Raspberry think they may be for sale within a year. The OS is a stripped down version of Ubuntu 9.04. The computer should be able to run 1080p displays, capable of OpenGL and even touchscreens.
The price is just for the bare necessities though. You will have to “upgrade” it with a keyboard, monitor and USB hub, but the sticker price away is nevertheless the lowest we’ve seen so far. According to the Foundation these little machines are targeted for schools and institutes.

Chip manufacturers have some hot processors on the way to the next generations of iPads and Android tablets. Most of them will have multiple cores with ARM architecture, which hold back the power consumption.
For people who dream of buying an iPAD or an Android tablet, one thing is now clear – there is considerably more horsepower under the bonnet of the next generation.
Here are a few suggestions. (more…)
Intel’s new chipset for Sandy Bridge have problems with the SATA ports. Intel issued a press release Monday afternoon that the company’s Cougar Point chipset has a design flaw, which has now been identified and corrected.
The design flaw meant that the chipset could eventually get unstable SATA ports, which could affect communication between the processor and SSDs, hard drives and optical drives.
The problem applies only to relatively few customers, those who have already invested in a Sandy Bridge processor, characterized by using a socket LGA 1155, not used by other Intel processors. Some laptops are also affected, including Dell’s newly released third revision of the Alienware m17x.
Intel starts to supply the new version of the chipset in February and expects full volume in April. This hardware blunder could result in severe economical consequenses for Intel.

There is too much flash on websites today. Flash is an excellent product if you want to make small online games or interactive programs. CPU usage is also thereafter. It is clear that Flash works inefficiently when it instead be used to display banner ads with hidden links that do not use a standard cookies and therefore can not be easily blocked, but actually seems that could be replicated with simple HTML links and image.

So it’s probably not Adobe’s fault, nor can you raise a finger at Apple. There is too much flash on websites today. Flash is an excellent product if you want to make small online games or interactive programs. CPU usage is also thereafter. It is clear that Flash works inefficiently when it is used to display banner ads with hidden links that do not use a standard cookies and therefore can not be easily blocked, but actually seems to be replicated with simple HTML links and images.
It’s like running 7 programs in the background. You can direct blame at poor web developers and ad agencies.
Flashblock can be used for Chrome and Firefox. https: // addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433 / http://www.chromeextensions.org/appearance-functioning/flashblock/
